The Homemade Table cookbook

The Homemade TableSeasonal Recipes, Preserves & Sourdough – is a book of two parts, the first section contains seasonal recipes focusing on fresh produce. Chapters include; Breakfasts, Vegetables & Soups, Dinner, and Baking & Desserts. These are my favourite recipes I make for my family and friends throughout the year.

In the second part of the book, I share my extensive knowledge and recipes for making homemade staples such as sourdough bread, preserves, ferments, and dairy products. In these chapters, I share my ‘master recipes’ for sourdough bread, multi-purpose dough, pickles, and sauerkraut, with multiple variations for each. These staples form the backbone of my kitchen. Drawing on 20 years of experience teaching cooking, my aim is to simplify these more complex techniques for the home kitchen.

The Homemade Table is a complete guide to home cooking, one that you can return to again and again for planning meals, or to master a new cooking technique. My signature detailed recipes include many variations and, where possible, substitutions for gluten and dairy-free options. Along with troubleshooting for sourdough bread, preserves and ferments from the most frequent questions asked at my cooking workshops. The book concludes with a detailed chapter on stocking the pantry and staple recipes such as cooking legumes and homemade gluten-free flour mix.

The Homemade Table is a home kitchen tome including over 170 recipes. It is an all-in-one cookbook!

Homegrown Kitchen cookbook

My fourth award-winning* cookbook – Homegrown Kitchen – Everyday Recipes for Eating Well – is a culmination of 18 years of studying, researching, and teaching others how to cook and eat well. I sincerely hope that it will find a place in your kitchen, splattered with food, littered with page markers and handwritten jottings in the margin, just like my own favourite cookbooks. It is an insight into how I cook and the reasons behind the techniques I use. The recipes are a combination of notes from my sell-out cooking workshops around Aotearoa New Zealand interwoven with everyday meals I prepare for my family. It is essentially my kitchen wrapped up in the pages of a book.

*Homegrown Kitchen cookbook was chosen as the 2018 New Zealand winner of the Easy Home Recipes section of The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. It was also shortlisted for Best Cookbook Design in the PANZ 2018 Book Design Awards, and received a Highly Commended for Best Cookbook in the 2019 NZ Food Media Awards (where this Homegrown Kitchen website won best NZ Food Website).

“Nicola Galloway’s Homegrown Kitchen is a rare delight: an elegantly produced, thoughtful, and beautifully illustrated companion for any cook or gardener who wants to live well without depriving themselves of any of the good things in life. It’s comprehensive without being preachy, offering sensible nutritional advice, healthy and hearty recipes, and the benefit of 18 years of wholefoods experience. Oh, and it’s gorgeous in every sense of the word. I’m glad she’s taken this long to produce it; the wait was definitely worth it.”

Lynda Hallinan, NZ Gardener editor-at-large.

  2. Hi Nicola,
I bought your original book ‘ Cooking for your Child’ 7 years ago, when my daughter was starting on solids. I was struggling to learn how to feed her healthfully and well. Your book was so incredibly useful – it really began a long and happy transformation in the way I think about food. I really wanted to thank you! My children thank you, and all the kids I have feed cashew nut slice to (and the mothers I have given your book to) thank you. So excited to find your blog. Lisa

    1. Wow thanks Lisa, the intention for my book was to do just that so I love hearing when it hit the spot! Enjoy reading Homegrown Kitchen 🙂

  3. Natalie Dick says:

Hey Nicola … I think I’ve mentioned this in person but always good to share on here for other readers to see … We also have the original “Cooking for your Child” and not only was it well utilised when my children were younger – but has now become a teaching tool for my (now) teenagers to learn how to cook well using real food. The recipes are simple and nutritious and easy for a beginner cook to follow. I also appreciate the fact boxes included with the recipes, further educating them on why it’s better to prepare your own healthy food. And yes like others have mentioned it is a fabulous present for new parents 🙂

    1. Hi Natalie, thanks so much for the lovely feedback and your ongoing support, it means a lot xx
